Adını Ege Denizi’nden alan Ege Bölgesi, Türkiye’nin batısında bulunur. Ülke topraklarının %11’lik kısmını oluşturan bölge, 79.000 kilometre kare topraklarıyla ülkenin en büyük beşinci bölgesi konumundadır.
2014 yılı nüfus sayımlarına gore, Ege Bölgesi’nde yaşayanların sayısı 10,446,471’dir. Bölgede yaşayan insan sayısının her geçen yıl artmasıyla birlikte İzmir 4 milyon nüfusuyla bölgenin en kalabalık şehridir. Ege Bölgesi, nüfus ve ekonomi bakımından Türkiye’nin en gelişmiş ikinci bölgesidir. Bölge aynı zamanda muazzam bir kültürel, tarihi ve turistik mirasa sahiptir.
Ege Bölgesi, tarım ürünleri, turizm, ve sanayi ile Türkiye ekonomisine en önemli katkıda bulunan bölgelerden biridir. Buradan anlaşılacağı üzere bu üç alan, bölgede yaşayan insanlar için en önemli gelir kaynaklarıdır. Tekstil, otomotiv, madencilik, elektrik-elektronik, inşaat malzemeleri de bölgedeki en popular sanayi sektörlerinden biridir ve Ege Bölgesi, Marmara Bölgesi’nden sonra ülkenin sanayi ürünlerine en çok katkıda bulunan ikinci bölgedir. Tüm bu ürünler bölge için çok önemli olmakla birlikte, bölgedeki iklim ve toprak koşulları sayesinde tarım ürünleri bölgede yaşayanlar için en önemli gelir kaynağı konumundadır.
Diğer taraftan, Efes, Çeşme Kalesi, Aizanoi, Kadifekale gibi tarihi yerlerin yanı sıra turizm de bölgenin en önemli bileşenlerinden biridir. Efes Antik Kenti içerisinde yer alan Artemis Tapınağı, Dünyanın 7 Harikası’ndan biri olarak kabul edilir ve her yıl bu muhteşem yerleri görmek milyonlarca insan gelir. Bölgenin ününe en çok katkı sağlayan bir başka unsur da kalsiyum bakımından zengin sularıyla muhteşem bir coğrafi fenomen haline gelen, mermer yapılar oluşturan Pamukkale Travertenleridir. Bu göz alıcı manzaranın hemen ardında Hierapolis antik şehrinin kalıntılarını görmek mümkündür. Tüm bunların dışında, bölgede Bodrum, Marmaris, Datça, Köyceğiz, Fethiye gibi muhteşem yerler bulunmaktadır ve buralarda mükemmel bir tatil geçirmek mümkünken aynı zamanda doğa güzelliklerini ve Ege Bölgesi’nde yatan tarihi keşfetmek de mümkündür.

The Aegean Region
The Aegean Region, which is named after the Aegean Sea, is located in the western part of Turkey. Occupying the 11% of the total area of the country, the Aegean Region is the fifth biggest region of the country with its 79.000 square kilometers of land.
According to the census of 2014, the Aegean Region has 10,446,471 inhabitants. While the number of the people living in the Aegean Region increases every year, Izmir stands out as the most crowded city of the region with 4 million inhabitants. The Aegean Region is the second most developed region of Turkey in terms of population and economy. The region also has an astonishing cultural, historical and touristic heritage.
The Aegean Region is one of the most important contributors to Turkey’s economy with agricultural products, tourism, and industry. It can be concluded that these three areas are one of the most significant source of living for the inhabitants of the Aegean Region. Textiles, automotive, mining, electric-electronic, construction products are among the most popular industrial sectors around the region and it is the second biggest contributor to the country’s industrial products after the Marmara Region. While these products are very important for the region as a whole, it is important to note that agricultural products are the biggest source of living for the inhabitants of the region thanks to the climate and soil conditions of the region.
On the other hand, tourism is one of the most significant elements of the Aegean Region, along with the historical places such as the likes of Ephesus, the Castle of Cesme, Aizanoi, Kadifekale and etc. The Temple of Artemis, which is located in the Ephesus, is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World and millions of people come to visit such stunning places every year. Another massive contributor to the region’s fame is the Pamukkale Travertines with calcium-rich thermal waters that created a magnificent geographical phenomenon of white marble terraces. Right behind this eye-catching landscape, it’s possible to see the ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis. Apart from all these, thanks to its perfect climate, the region is also famous for great holiday resorts. For example, there are perfect places such as Bodrum, Marmaris, Datca, Koycegız, Fethiye and it’s possible to have a great holiday and explore both the natural beauty and the history that lies in the places of the Aegean Region.
